I take a lot of photographs, and sometimes get a good one.

What’s happening

I have the jade tree ready to bring in, the amaryllis is blooming, the crabapple tree is ready for Halloween, dandelions are blooming close to the ground, the dogwood leaves are turning, the fuchsia is still trying to bloom, the holly we cut back is leafing out, the hydrangea is getting fall color, I re-potted the ivy, the mint is blooming, the orange tree is in a new pot and ready to come inside, the peach tree still looks like summer, one or two petunias are still blooming, the garden spider’s egg case is still in place, and there are one or two tomatoes still hanging around.

The forwarding address for the garden spider:

Glen found the garden spider’s egg case today in the shrub beside the one in which she had made her web. I learned (from Google, of course) that the eggs will hatch in a few weeks, but the baby spiders will remain in the egg case until spring, when they will disperse.

Garden Spider Moves On

Reason of the Day to

The garden spider has moved and left no forwarding address, but I still have a few photographs. She became a lot more active before leaving, moving the center of her web several inches a couple of times when she rebuilt after a rain. She also started to move about during the early mornings instead of staying in her daytime face-downward posture on the zig-zag line in the center of her web, where she is in most of her photographs. Here is one of the more active moments:

If you are following the adventures of the garden spider, you will be happy to know that the rain on Saturday did not damage the web significantly.

And the spider is still there. She has picked the perfect spot to build, in a corner that has plenty of light and air but never gets direct sun and is sheltered from prevaling winds. She eats crickets, which are in good supply. The web was damaged once by a rainstorm, but she built it back quickly at just a little different angle. Here she is, photographed today at about 5:30 p.m.:

The big spider

This is my resident garden spider at home.

Look, a big spider!

And another one!

Mildred

Mildred posing. In fact, in this photograph, she is keeping a watchful eye on the microwave oven which she hopes will produce something yummy.

Rainbow

A rainbow appeared at 7:30 p.m. after a big thunderstorm.
